Barnsley Museums shortlisted for volunteer team of the year

Barnsley Museums are delighted to announce that one of its volunteer groups have been shortlisted for the Museums + Heritage Award, in the category ‘Volunteer Team of Year’.

The award highlights the outstanding contribution volunteers make to the sector by giving up their time in support of arts and culture.  It is also an opportunity to show appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Nominated are a team of young people from across Barnsley with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) who are giving up their time at Worsbrough Mill Country Park to improve the outside spaces.

The group who have been supported by Opening Doors and Qdos Creates, were nominated in recognition of their fantastic efforts, which include making wildlife habitats and birdboxes, protecting the environment in the park, creating artistic interpretation for the site and fundraising over £100 in donations. The work of the volunteers has made an incredible impact on the area and they are keen to return for further projects once it is safe to do so.

Winners of the award will be announced at an online ceremony on Tuesday, 22 September.

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said:
